Ἀπολλόδωρος δʼ Ἀθηναῖος ἐν τοῖς περὶ Σώφρονος προθεὶς τὰ λιχνοτέρα τᾶν προφυρᾶν φησὶν ὅτι παροιμία ἐστὶν καὶ λέγει, ὡς μέν τινες, ἀπὸ τοῦ βάμματος· οὗ γὰρ ἂν προσψαύσῃ ἕλκει ἐφʼ ἑαυτὸ καὶ τοῖς προσπαρατεθειμένοις ἐμποιεῖ χρώματος αὐγήν· ἄλλοι δʼ ἀπὸ τοῦ ζῴου. ἁλίσκονται δέ, φησὶν Ἀριστοτέλης, τοῦ ἔαρος, ὑπὸ κύνα δʼ οὐχ ἁλίσκονται· οὐ γὰρ νέμονται, ἀλλὰ κρύπτουσιν ἑαυτὰς καὶ φωλεύουσι. τὸ δὲ ἄνθος ἔχουσιν ἀνὰ μέσον τῆς μήκωνος καὶ τοῦ τραχήλου. ἔχει δὲ καὶ αὐτὴ καὶ κῆρυξ τὰ ἐπικαλύμματα κατὰ τὰ αὐτὰ καὶ τὰ ἄλλα τὰ στρομβώδη ἐκ γενετῆς πάντα. νέμονται δʼ ἐξείροντα τὴν καλουμένην γλῶτταν ὑπὸ τὸ κάλυμμα. τὸ δὲ μέγεθος τῆς γλώσσης ἔχει πορφύρα μεῖζον δακτύλου, νέμεται καὶ διατρυπᾷ καὶ τὰ κογχύλια καὶ τὸ ἑαυτῆς ὄστρακον. μακρόβια δʼ ἐστὶν καὶ πορφύρα καὶ κῆρυξ καὶ ζῇ περὶ ἔτη ἕξ. φανερὰ δὲ αὔξησις ἐκ τῆς ἐν τῷ ὀστράκῳ ἕλικος. αἱ δὲ κόγχαι καὶ χῆμαι καὶ σωλῆνες καὶ κτένες ἐν τοῖς ἀμμώδεσι λαμβάνουσι τὴν σύστασιν.

CTS URN Retriever

The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
