Περσῶν βασιλεύς, ὥς φησιν ἐν τῇ αʹ Ἡρόδοτος, ὕδωρ ἀπὸ τοῦ Χοάσπεω πιεῖν ἄγεται τοῦ παρὰ Σοῦσα ῥέοντος· τοῦ μόνου πίνει βασιλεύς. τοῦ δὲ τοιούτου ὕδατος ἀπεψημένου πολλαὶ κάρτα ἅμαξαι τετράκυκλοι ἡμιόνειαι κομίζουσαι ἐν ἀγγείοις ἀργυρέοισιν ἕπονταί οἱ. Κτησίας δὲ Κνίδιος καὶ ἱστορεῖ ὅπως ἕψεται τὸ βασιλικὸν τοῦτο ὕδωρ καὶ ὅπως ἐναποτιθέμενον τοῖς ἀγγείοις φέρεται τῷ βασιλεῖ, λέγων αὐτὸ καὶ ἐλαφρότατον καὶ ἥδιστον εἶναι. καὶ τῆς Αἰγύπτου δὲ βασιλεὺς δεύτερος Φιλάδελφος ἐπίκλην ἐκδοὺς τὴν αὑτοῦ θυγατέρα Βερενίκην Ἀντιόχῳ τῷ Συρίας βασιλεῖ ἐν ἐπιμελείᾳ εἶχε πέμπειν αὐτῇ τὸ ἀπὸ τοῦ Νείλου ὕδωρ, ἵνα μόνου τούτου τοῦ ποταμοῦ παῖς πίνῃ, ἱστορεῖ Πολύβιος. Ἡλιόδωρος δέ φησι τὸν Ἐπιφανῆ Ἀντίοχον, ὃν διὰ τὰς πράξεις Πολύβιος Ἐπιμανῆ καλεῖ, τὴν κρήνην τὴν ἐν Ἀντιοχείᾳ κεράσαι οἴνῳ· καθάπερ καὶ τὸν Φρύγα Μίδαν φησὶ Θεόπομπος, ὅτε ἑλεῖν τὸν Σιληνὸν ὑπὸ μέθης ἠθέλησεν. ἐστὶ δὲ κρήνη, ὥς φησι Βίων, μέση Μαιδῶν καὶ Παιόνων Ἴννα καλουμένη. Στάφυλος δέ φησι τὴν τοῦ οἴνου πρὸς τὸ ὕδωρ κρᾶσιν Μελάμποδα πρῶτον εὑρεῖν. φησὶ δὲ καὶ πεπτικώτερον τοῦ οἴνου τὸ ὕδωρ Πλειστόνικος.

CTS URN Retriever

The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
