ἀπώλοντο δὲ καὶ ΜΑΓΝΗΤΕΣ οἱ πρὸς τῷ Μαιάνδρῳ διὰ τὸ πλέον ἀνεθῆναι, ὥς φησι Καλλῖνος ἐν τοῖς Ἐλεγείοις καὶ Ἀρχίλοχος· ἑάλωσαν γὰρ ὑπὸ Ἐφεσίων. καὶ περὶ αὐτῶν δὲ τῶν ΕΦΕΣΙΩΝ Δημόκριτος ὁ Ἐφέσιος ἐν τῷ προτέρῳ περὶ τοῦ ἐν Ἐφέσῳ Ναοῦ διηγούμενος περὶ τῆς χλιδῆς αὐτῶν καὶ ὧν ἐφόρουν βαπτῶν ἱματίων γράφει καὶ τάδε· τὰ δὲ τῶν Ἰώνων ἰοβαφῆ καὶ πορφυρᾶ καὶ κρόκινα ῥόμβοις ὑφαντά· αἱ δὲ κεφαλαὶ κατʼ ἴσα διειλημμέναι ζῴοις. καὶ σαράπεις μήλινοι καὶ πορφυροῖ καὶ λευκοί, οἳ δὲ ἁλουργεῖς. καὶ καλασίρεις Κορινθιουργεῖς· εἰσὶ δʼ αἳ μὲν πορφυραῖ τούτων, αἳ δὲ ἰοβαφεῖς, αἳ δὲ ὑακίνθιναι· λάβοι δʼ ἄν τις καὶ φλογίνας καὶ θαλασσοειδεῖς. ὑπάρχουσιν δὲ καὶ Περσικαὶ καλασίρεις, αἵπερ εἰσὶ κάλλισται πασῶν. ἴδοι δʼ ἄν τις, φησίν, καὶ τὰς καλουμένας ἀκταίας, ὅπερ ἐστὶ καὶ πολυτελέστατον ἐν τοῖς Περσικοῖς περιβλήμασιν. ἐστὶν δὲ τοῦτο σπαθητὸν ἰσχύος καὶ κουφότητος χάριν· καταπέπασται δὲ χρυσοῖς κέγχροις· οἱ δὲ κέγχροι νήματι πορφυρῷ πάντες εἰς τὴν εἴσω μοῖραν ἅμματʼ ἔχουσιν ἀνὰ μέσον. τούτοις πᾶσι χρῆσθαί φησι τοὺς Ἐφεσίους ἐπιδόντας εἰς τρυφήν.

CTS URN Retriever
The CTS URN retriever is a tool for retrieving and citing paragraphs, passages, and words in the text of the Deipnosophists by typing the corresponding CTS URN. The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.
The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

The icons on the left of each paragraph are links to external resources:
- list icon : automatic alignment of index entries with the Greek text of the Deipnosophists (indices by August Meineke, Georg Kaibel, and S. Douglas Olson);
- tag icon : POS tagging of the text through the OpenNLP POSTagger for Ancient Greek.
Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
