Λιτυέρσας δὲ ἦν μὲν υἱὸς Μίδου νόθος, Κελαινῶν δὲ τῶν ἐν Φρυγίᾳ βασιλεύς, ἄγριος ἰδέσθαι καὶ ἀνήμερος ἄνθρωπος, ἀδηφάγος δʼ ἰσχυρῶς. λέγει δὲ περὶ αὐτοῦ Σωσίθεος ὁ τραγῳδιοποιὸς ἐν δράματι Δάφνιδι ἢ Λιτυέρσᾳ οὕτως· ἔσθει μὲν ἄρτους τρεῖς, ὄνους κανθηλίους τρεῖς τῆς βραχείας ἡμέρας· πίνει δʼ ἕνα καλῶν μετρητὴν τὸν δεκάμφορον πίθον. τοιοῦτός ἐστι καὶ ὁ παρὰ Φερεκράτει ἢ Στράττιδι ἐν Ἀγαθοῖς, περὶ οὗ φησιν· ἐγὼ κατεσθίω μόλις τῆς ἡμέρας πένθʼ ἡμιμέδιμνʼ, ἐὰν βιάζωμαι. Β. μόλις; ὡς ὀλιγόσιτος ἦσθʼ ἄρʼ, ὃς κατεσθίεις τῆς ἡμέρας μακρᾶς τριήρους σιτία. Ξάνθος δʼ ἐν τοῖς Λυδιακοῖς Κάμβλητά φησι τὸν βασιλεύσαντα Λυδῶν πολυφάγον γενέσθαι καὶ πολυπότην, ἔτι δὲ γαστρίμαργον. τοῦτον οὖν ποτε νυκτὸς τὴν ἑαυτοῦ γυναῖκα κατακρεουργήσαντα καταφαγεῖν, ἔπειτα πρωὶ εὑρόντα τὴν χεῖρα τῆς γυναικὸς ἐνοῦσαν ἐν τῷ στόματι ἑαυτὸν ἀποσφάξαι, περιβοήτου τῆς πράξεως γενομένης. περὶ δὲ Θυὸς τοῦ Παφλαγόνων βασιλέως ὅτι καὶ αὐτὸς ἦν πολυφάγος προειρήκαμεν, παραθέμενοι Θεόπομπον ἱστοροῦντα ἐν τῇ πέμπτῃ καὶ τριακοστῇ. Ἀρχίλοχος δʼ ἐν Τετραμέτροις Χαρίλαν εἰς τὰ ὅμοια διαβέβληκεν, ὡς οἱ κωμῳδιοποιοὶ Κλεώνυμον καὶ Πείσανδρον. περὶ δὲ Χαιρίππου φησὶ Φοινικίδης ἐν Φυλάρχῳ οὕτως· τρίτον δὲ πρὸς τούτοισι τὸν σοφώτατον Χαίριππον. οὗτος, ὥσπερ οἶδας, ἐσθίει μέχρι ἂν διδῷ τις ἢ λάθῃ διαρραγείς. τοιοῦτʼ ἔχει ταμιεῖον ὥσπερ οἰκίας.

CTS URN Retriever
The CTS URN retriever is a tool for retrieving and citing paragraphs, passages, and words in the text of the Deipnosophists by typing the corresponding CTS URN. The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.
The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

The icons on the left of each paragraph are links to external resources:
- list icon : automatic alignment of index entries with the Greek text of the Deipnosophists (indices by August Meineke, Georg Kaibel, and S. Douglas Olson);
- tag icon : POS tagging of the text through the OpenNLP POSTagger for Ancient Greek.
Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
