Πρίαμος δὲ παρὰ τῷ ποιητῇ καὶ ὀνειδίζει τοῖς υἱοῖς ἀναλίσκουσι τὰ μὴ νενομισμένα· ἀρνῶν ἠδʼ ἐρίφων ἐπιδήμιοι ἁρπακτῆρες. Φιλόχορος δὲ ἱστορεῖ καὶ κεκωλῦσθαι Ἀθήνησιν ἀπέκτου ἀρνὸς μηδένα γεύεσθαι, ἐπιλιπούσης ποτὲ τῆς τῶν ζῴων τούτων γενέσεως. Ἑλλήσποντον δὲ Ὅμηρος ἰχθυόεντα προσαγορεύων καὶ τοὺς Φαίακας πλωτικωτάτους ποιῶν καὶ ἐν τῇ Ἰθάκῃ εἰδὼς λιμένας πλείους καὶ νήσους προσεχεῖς πολλάς, ἐν αἷς ἰχθύων ἐγίνετο πλῆθος καὶ ἀγρίων ὀρνίθων, καὶ εἰς εὐδαιμονίαν δὲ καταριθμῶν τὸ τὴν θάλασσαν ἰχθῦς παρέχειν, ὅμως τούτων οὐδὲν οὐδένα ποιεῖ προσφερόμενον· καὶ μὴν οὐδʼ ὀπώραν παρατίθησί τινι καίπερ οὖσαν πολλὴν καὶ ἥδιστα ταύτης μνημονεύων καὶ πάντα χρόνον παρασκευάζων ἀθάνατον· ὄγχνη γάρ, φησίν, ἐπʼ ὄγχνῃ καὶ τὰ ἑξῆς. ἀλλὰ μὴν οὐδὲ στεφανουμένους οὐδὲ μυρουμένους ποιεῖ ὥσπερ οὐδὲ θυμιῶντας, ἀλλὰ πάντων τούτων ἀπολυομένους τοὺς ἀνθρώπους εἰς ἐλευθερίαν καὶ αὐτάρκειαν ἐξαιρεῖται τοὺς πρώτους. καὶ θεοῖς δὲ ἁπλῆν ἀποδίδωσι δίαιταν νέκταρ καὶ ἀμβροσίαν. καὶ τοὺς ἀνθρώπους δὲ ποιεῖ τιμῶντας αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ τῆς διαίτης, ἀφελὼν λιβανωτὸν καὶ σμύρναν καὶ στεφάνους καὶ τὴν περὶ ταῦτα τρυφήν. καὶ τῆς ἁπλῆς δὲ ταύτης διαίτης οὐκ ἀπλήστως ἀπολαύοντας παρίστησιν, ἀλλʼ ὡς οἱ κράτιστοι τῶν ἰατρῶν ἀφαιρεῖ τὰς πλησμονάς, αὐτὰρ ἐπεὶ πόσιος καὶ ἐδητύος ἐξ ἔρον ἕντο· καὶ τὴν ἐπιθυμίαν πληρώσαντες οἳ μὲν ἐξώρμων ἐπὶ μελέτην ἀθλητικὴν δίσκοισι τερπόμενοι καὶ αἰγανέαις, τῇ παιδιᾷ τὰ πρὸς σπουδὴν ἐκμελετῶντες· οἳ δὲ κιθαρῳδῶν ἠκροῶντο τὰς ἡρωικὰς πράξεις ἐν μέλει καὶ ῥυθμῷ ποιούντων.

CTS URN Retriever
The CTS URN retriever is a tool for retrieving and citing paragraphs, passages, and words in the text of the Deipnosophists by typing the corresponding CTS URN. The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.
The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

The icons on the left of each paragraph are links to external resources:
- list icon : automatic alignment of index entries with the Greek text of the Deipnosophists (indices by August Meineke, Georg Kaibel, and S. Douglas Olson);
- tag icon : POS tagging of the text through the OpenNLP POSTagger for Ancient Greek.
Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
