ταῦτά σοι παρʼ ἡμῶν τῶν ζώντων, ὀλβιογάστορ Οὐλπιανέ, ἀπεμνημόνευσα. καὶ σὺ γάρ, ὡς ἔοικε, μετʼ ἐμοῦ κατὰ τὸν Ἄλεξιν οὐδενὸς ἐμψύχου μεταλαμβάνεις, ὅς φησιν ἐν Ἀτθίδι τάδε· πρῶτος εἰπὼν ὅτι σοφιστὴς οὐδὲ εἷς ἔμψυχον οὐδὲν ἐσθίει σοφός τις ἦν. ἐγὼ γὰρ ἥκω νῦν ἀγοράσας οὐδὲ ἓν ἔμψυχον· ἰχθῦς ἐπριάμην τεθνηκότας μεγάλους, κρεᾴδιʼ ἀρνὸς ἐσθίειν πίονος, οὐ ζῶντος· οὐχ οἷόν τε γάρ. τί ἄλλο; ναί, ἡπάτιον ὀπτὸν προσέλαβον. τούτων ἐὰν δείξῃ τις φωνήν τι ψυχὴν ἔχον, ἀδικεῖν προσομολογῶ παραβαίνων τὸν νόμον. ἐπὶ τούτοις οὖν ἔασον ἡμᾶς δειπνεῖν. ἰδοὺ γάρ, ἕως πρὸς σὲ διαλέγομαι, καὶ οἱ ΦΑΣΙΑΝΙΚΟΙ παραπεπλεύκασιν ὑπεριδόντες ἡμᾶς διὰ τὴν ἄκαιρόν σου γλωσσαλγίαν. ἀλλʼ ἢν ἐμοὶ εἴπῃς, ἔφη Οὐλπιανός, διδάσκαλε Μυρτίλε, ὀλβιογάστωρ σοι πόθεν καὶ εἰ φασιανικῶν τις ὀρνίθων μέμνηται τῶν παλαιῶν, ἐγώ σοι ἦρι μάλʼ οὐκ ἐφʼ Ἑλλήσποντον πλεύσας, ἀλλʼ εἰς τὴν ἀγορὰν πορευθεὶς ὠνήσομαι φασιανικόν, ὃν συγκατέδομαί σοι.

CTS URN Retriever

The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
