πρὸς ταῦτα ἀπαντήσας Ζωίλος ἔφη· Ἀριστοφάνης, οὗτος, ἐν Λημνίαις τὸ τακερὸν ἔταξεν ἐπὶ τοῦ τρυφεροῦ λέγων οὕτως· Λῆμνος κυάμους τρέφουσα τακεροὺς καὶ καλούς. καὶ Φερεκράτης Κραπατάλλοις· τακεροὺς ποιῆσαι τοὺς ἐρεβίνθους αὐτόθι. σίνηπυ δʼ ὠνόμασε Νίκανδρος Κολοφώνιος ἐν μὲν Θηριακοῖς οὕτως· μὴν καὶ σικύην χαλκήρεα ἠὲ σίνηπυ. ἐν δὲ τοῖς Γεωργικοῖς· σπέρματά τʼ ἐνδάκνοντα σινήπυος. καὶ πάλιν· κάρδαμʼ ἀνάρρινόν τε μελάμφυλλόν τε σίνηπυ. Κράτης δʼ ἐν τοῖς περὶ τῆς Ἀττικῆς λέξεως Ἀριστοφάνη παριστᾷ λέγοντα· κἄβλεπε σίναπυ καὶ τὰ πρόσωπʼ ἀνέσπασε, καθά φησι Σέλευκος ἐν τοῖς περὶ Ἑλληνισμοῦ· ἐστὶ δʼ στίχος ἐξ Ἱππέων καὶ ἔχει οὕτως· κἄβλεψε νᾶπυ. οὐδεὶς δʼ Ἀττικῶν σίναπυ ἔφη. ἔχει δὲ ἑκάτερον λόγον. νᾶπυ μὲν γὰρ οἷον νᾶφυ, ὅτι ἐστέρηται φύσεως· ἀφυὲς γὰρ καὶ μικρόν, ὥσπερ καὶ ἀφύη. σίναπυ δὲ ὅτι σίνεται τοὺς ὦπας ἐν τῇ ὀδμῇ, ὡς καὶ τὸ κρόμμυον ὅτι τὰς κόρας μύομεν. Ξέναρχος δὲ κωμῳδιοποιὸς ἐν Σκύθαις ἔφη· τουτὶ τὸ κακὸν οὔκ ἐστʼ ἔτι κακόν. τὸ θυγάτριόν γέ μου σεσινάπικεν διὰ τῆς ξένης. ἁλῶν δὲ καὶ ὄξους μέμνηται καλὸς Ἀριστοφάνης ἐν τοῖς περὶ Σθενέλου τοῦ τραγικοῦ λέγων· καὶ πῶς ἐγὼ Σθενέλου φάγοιμʼ ἂν ῥήματα; εἰς ὄξος ἐμβαπτόμενος λευκοὺς ἅλας;

CTS URN Retriever

The CTS URN retriever is a tool for retrieving and citing paragraphs, passages, and words in the text of the Deipnosophists by typing the corresponding CTS URN. The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

For example:

The tool allows also users to type only book and paragraph of the Deipnosophists and get the corresponding CTS URN.

For example:

Correspondences between Casaubon and Kaibel references are available through the Casaubon-Kaibel Reference Converter.

The icons on the left of each paragraph are links to external resources:

Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
