περὶ δὲ ὑῶν ὅτι ἱερόν ἐστι τὸ ζῷον παρὰ Κρησὶν Ἀγαθοκλῆς Βαβυλώνιος ἐν πρώτῳ περὶ Κυζίκου φησὶν οὕτως· μυθεύουσιν ἐν Κρήτῃ γενέσθαι τὴν Διὸς τέκνωσιν ἐπὶ τῆς Δίκτης, ἐν καὶ ἀπόρρητος γίνεται θυσία. λέγεται γὰρ ὡς ἄρα Διὶ θηλὴν ὑπέσχεν ὗς καὶ τῷ σφετέρῳ γρυσμῷ περιοιχνεῦσα τὸν κνυζηθμὸν τοῦ βρέφεος ἀνεπάιστον τοῖς παριοῦσιν ἐτίθει. διὸ πάντες τὸ ζῷον τοῦτο περίσεπτον ἡγοῦνται καὶ οὐκ ἄν, φησί, τῶν κρεῶν δαίσαιντο. Πραίσιοι δὲ καὶ ἱερὰ ῥέζουσιν ὑί, καὶ αὕτη προτελὴς αὐτοῖς θυσία νενόμισται. τὰ παραπλήσια ἱστορεῖ καὶ Νεάνθης Κυζικηνὸς ἐν δευτέρῳ περὶ τελετῆς. πεταλίδων συῶν μνημονεύει Ἀχαιὸς Ἐρετριεὺς ἐν Αἴθωνι σατυρικῷ λέγων οὕτως πεταλίδων δέ τοι συῶν ... μορφαῖς ταῖσδε πόλλʼ ἐπάιον. πεταλίδας δʼ αὐτὰς εἴρηκε μεταφέρων ἀπὸ τῶν μόσχων· οὗτοι γὰρ πέτηλοι λέγονται ἀπὸ τῶν κεράτων, ὅταν αὐτὰ ἐκπέταλα ἔχωσι. παραπλησίως δὲ τῷ Ἀχαιῷ καὶ Ἐρατοσθένης ἐν Ἀντερινύι τοὺς σύας λαρινοὺς προσηγόρευσε μεταγαγὼν καὶ αὐτὸς ἀπὸ τῶν λαρινῶν βοῶν· οἳ οὕτως ἐκλήθησαν ἤτοι ἀπὸ τοῦ λαρινεύεσθαι (ὅπερ ἐστὶ σιτίζεσθαι. Σώφρων· βόες δὲ λαρινεύονται) ἀπό τινος κώμης Ἠπειρωτικῆς Λαρίνης ἀπὸ τοῦ βουκολοῦντος αὐτάς· Λαρῖνος δʼ οὗτος ἐκαλεῖτο.

CTS URN Retriever

The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
