Μνασέας δὲ ὁ Πατρεὺς ἐν τῷ Περίπλῳ τοὺς ἐν τῷ Κλείτορι ποταμῷ φησιν ἰχθῦς φθέγγεσθαι, καίτοι μόνους εἰρηκότος Ἀριστοτέλους φθέγγεσθαι σκάρον καὶ τὸν ποτάμιον χοῖρον. Φιλοστέφανος δʼ ὁ Κυρηναῖος μὲν γένος, Καλλιμάχου δὲ γνώριμος, ἐν τῷ περὶ τῶν παραδόξων ποταμῶν ἐν Ἀόρνῳ φησὶ τῷ ποταμῷ διὰ Φενεοῦ ῥέοντι ἰχθῦς εἶναι φθεγγομένους ὁμοίως κίχλαις· καλεῖσθαι δʼ αὐτοὺς ποικιλίας. Νυμφόδωρος δʼ ὁ Συρακόσιος ἐν τοῖς Περίπλοις ἐν τῷ Ἑλώρῳ ποταμῷ λάβρακας εἶναί φησι καὶ ἐγχέλεις μεγάλας οὕτω τιθασοὺς ὡς ἐκ τῶν χειρῶν δέχεσθαι τῶν προσφερόντων ἄρτους. ἐγὼ δὲ ἐν τῇ κατὰ Χαλκίδα Ἀρεθούσῃ τεθέαμαι, ἴσως δὲ καὶ ὑμῶν οἱ πλεῖστοι, κεστρεῖς χειροήθεις καὶ ἐγχέλεις ἐνώτια ἐχούσας ἀργυρᾶ καὶ χρυσᾶ, λαμβανούσας τε καὶ λαμβάνοντας παρὰ τῶν προσφερόντων τροφὰς τά τε ἀπὸ τῶν ἱερείων σπλάγχνα καὶ τυροὺς χλωρούς. Σῆμος δʼ ἐν ἕκτῳ Δηλιάδος Ἀθηναίοις, φησί, θυομένοις ἐν Δήλῳ τὴν χέρνιβα βάψας ὁ παῖς προσήνεγκε κἀν τῇ φιάλῃ μετὰ τοῦ ὕδατος ἰχθῦς κατέχεεν. εἰπεῖν οὖν αὐτοῖς τοὺς τῶν Δηλίων μάντεις ὡς κυριεύσουσι τῆς θαλάσσης.

CTS URN Retriever
The CTS URN retriever is a tool for retrieving and citing paragraphs, passages, and words in the text of the Deipnosophists by typing the corresponding CTS URN. The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.
The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

The icons on the left of each paragraph are links to external resources:
- list icon : automatic alignment of index entries with the Greek text of the Deipnosophists (indices by August Meineke, Georg Kaibel, and S. Douglas Olson);
- tag icon : POS tagging of the text through the OpenNLP POSTagger for Ancient Greek.
Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
