οὐ λανθάνει δέ με καὶ ὅτι κοινῶς πάντες οἱ ἰχθύες καμασῆνες ὑπὸ Ἐμπεδοκλέους ἐλέχθησαν τοῦ φυσικοῦ οὕτως πῶς καὶ δένδρεα μακρὰ καὶ εἰνάλιοι καμασῆνες, καὶ ὅτι τὰ Κύπρια ποιήσας ἔπη, εἴτε Κύπριός τίς ἐστιν Στασῖνος ὅστις δή ποτε χαίρει ὀνομαζόμενος, τὴν Νέμεσιν ποιεῖ διωκομένην ὑπὸ Διὸς καὶ εἰς ἰχθὺν μεταμορφουμένην διὰ τούτων· τοὺς δὲ μέτα τριτάτην Ἑλένην τέκε, θαῦμα βροτοῖσι· τήν ποτε καλλίκομος Νέμεσις φιλότητι μιγεῖσα Ζηνὶ θεῶν βασιλῆι τέκεν κρατερῆς ὑπʼ ἀνάγκης. φεῦγε γὰρ οὐδʼ ἔθελεν μιχθήμεναι ἐν φιλότητι πατρὶ Διὶ Κρονίωνι· ἐτείρετο γὰρ φρένας αἰδοῖ καὶ νεμέσει· κατὰ γῆν δὲ καὶ ἀτρύγετον μέλαν ὕδωρ φεῦγεν, Ζεὺς δʼ ἐδίωκε· λαβεῖν δʼ ἐλιλαίετο θυμῷ ἄλλοτε μὲν κατὰ κῦμα πολυφλοίσβοιο θαλάσσης ἰχθύι εἰδομένην, πόντον πολὺν ἐξορόθυνεν, ἄλλοτʼ ἀνʼ Ὠκεανὸν ποταμὸν καὶ πείρατα γαίης, ἄλλοτʼ ἀνʼ ἤπειρον πολυβώλακα. γίγνετο δʼ αἰεὶ θηρίʼ ὅσʼ ἤπειρος αἰνὰ τρέφει, ὄφρα φύγοι νιν.

CTS URN Retriever

The CTS URN retriever is a tool for retrieving and citing paragraphs, passages, and words in the text of the Deipnosophists by typing the corresponding CTS URN. The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
