ΛΑΤΟΣ. τοῦτον κατὰ τὴν Ἰταλίαν κράτιστον εἶναί φησιν Ἀρχέστρατος λέγων οὕτως· τὸν δὲ λάτον τὸν κλεινὸν ἐν Ἰταλίῃ πολυδένδρῳ Σκυλλαῖος ἔχει πορθμός, θαυμαστὸν ἔδεσμα. οἱ δʼ ἐν τῷ Νείλῳ ποταμῷ γινόμενοι λάτοι τὸ μέγεθος εὑρίσκονται καὶ ὑπὲρ διακοσίας λίτρας ἔχοντες. δὲ ἰχθὺς οὗτος λευκότατος ὢν καὶ ἥδιστός ἐστι πάντα τρόπον σκευαζόμενος, παραπλήσιος ὢν τῷ κατὰ τὸν Ἴστρον γινομένῳ γλάνιδι. φέρει δʼ Νεῖλος καὶ ἄλλα γένη πολλὰ ἰχθύων καὶ πάντα ἥδιστα, μάλιστα δὲ τὰ τῶν κορακίνων. πολλὰ γὰρ καὶ τούτων γένη. φέρει δὲ καὶ τοὺς μαιώτας καλουμένους, ὧν μνημονεύει Ἄρχιππος ἐν Ἰχθύσι διὰ τούτων· τοὺς μαιώτας καὶ σαπέρδας καὶ γλάνιδας. εἰσὶ δὲ πολλοὶ περὶ τὸν Πόντον, φέροντες τὴν ὀνομασίαν ἀπὸ τῆς λίμνης τῆς Μαιώτιδος. Νειλῷοι δʼ εἰσὶν ἰχθύες, εἴ γʼ ἔτι μνημονεύειν δύναμαι πολυέτη τὴν ἀποδημίαν ἔχων, νάρκη μὲν ἡδίστη, χοῖρος, σῖμος, φάγρος, ὀξύρυγχος, ἀλλάβης, σίλουρος, συνοδοντίς, ἐλέωτρις, ἔγχελυς, θρίσσα, ἄβραμις, τύφλη, λεπιδωτός, φῦσα, κεστρεύς. εἰσὶ δὲ καὶ ἄλλοι οὐκ ὀλίγοι.

The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.
