καλοῦνται δὲ οἱ κεστρεῖς ὑπό τινων πλῶτες, ὥς φησι Πολέμων ἐν τῷ περὶ τῶν ἐν Σικελίᾳ ποταμῶν καὶ Ἐπίχαρμος δʼ ἐν Μούσαις οὕτως αὐτοὺς ὀνομάζει· αἰολίαι πλῶτές τε κυνόγλωσσοί τʼ, ἐνῆν δὲ σκιαθίδες. Ἀριστοτέλης δʼ ἐν τῷ περὶ ζῴων ἠθῶν καὶ βίων φησίν, ὅτι ζῶσιν οἱ κεστρεῖς κἂν ἀφαιρεθῶσι τὰς κέρκους. ἀπεσθίεται δʼ μὲν κεστρεὺς ὑπὸ λάβρακος, δὲ γόγγρος ὑπὸ μυραίνης. δὲ λεγομένη παροιμία κεστρεὺς νηστεύει ἐπὶ τῶν δικαιοπραγούντων ἀκούεται, ἐπειδὴ οὐ σαρκοφαγεῖ κεστρεύς. Ἀναξίλας ἐν Μονοτρόπῳ Μάτωνα τὸν σοφιστὴν ἐπὶ γαστριμαργίᾳ διαβάλλων φησί· τοῦ κεστρέως κατεδήδοκεν τὸ κρανίον ἀναρπάσας Μάτων· ἐγὼ δʼ ἀπόλλυμαι. δὲ καλὸς Ἀρχέστρατός φησι· κεστρέα δʼ Αἰγίνης ἐξ ἀμφιρύτης ἀγόραζε, ἀνδράσι τʼ ἀστείοισιν ὁμιλήσεις. Διοκλῆς Θαλάττῃ· ἅλλεται δʼ ὑφʼ ἡδονῆς κεστρεύς.

CTS URN Retriever

The CTS URN retriever is a tool for retrieving and citing paragraphs, passages, and words in the text of the Deipnosophists by typing the corresponding CTS URN. The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.
