ΚΙΘΑΡΟΣ. Ἀριστοτέλης ἐν τῷ περὶ ζῴων περὶ ἰχθύων κίθαρος, φησί, καρχαρόδους, μονήρης, φυκοφάγος, τὴν γλῶτταν ἀπολελυμένος, καρδίαν λευκὴν ἔχων καὶ πλατεῖαν. Φερεκράτης Δουλοδιδασκάλῳ· κίθαρος γεγενῆσθαι κἀγοράζειν κίθαρος ὤν. Β. ἀγαθόν γʼ κίθαρος καὶ πρὸς Ἀπόλλωνος πάνυ. Α. ἐκεῖνο θράττει μʼ, ὅτι λέγουσιν, ʼγαθή, ἔνεστιν ἐν κιθάρῳ τι κακόν. Ἐπίχαρμος Ἥβας γάμῳ· ἦν δʼ ὑαινίδες τε βούγλωσσοί τε καὶ κίθαρος ἐνῆς. ὅτι δὲ διὰ τὸ ὄνομα ἱερὸς εἶναι νενόμισται τοῦ Ἀπόλλωνος εἴρηκεν Ἀπολλόδωρος. Καλλίας δʼ Διοκλῆς Κύκλωψι· κίθαρος ὀπτὸς καὶ βατὶς θύννου τε κεφάλαιον τοδί. δʼ Ἀρχέστρατος ἐν τῇ Ἡδυπαθείᾳ· κίθαρον δὲ κελεύω, ἂν μὲν λευκὸς ἔῃ .... στερεός τε πεφύκῃ, ἕψειν εἰς ἅλμην καθαρὰν βαιὰ φύλλα καθέντα· ἂν δʼ πυρρὸς ἰδεῖν καὶ μὴ λίαν μέγας, ὀπτᾶν ὀρθῇ κεντήσαντα δέμας νεοθῆγι μαχαίρᾳ. καὶ πολλῷ τυρῷ καὶ ἐλαίῳ τοῦτον ἄλειφε· χαίρει γὰρ δαπανῶντας ὁρῶν, ἐστὶν δʼ ἀκόλαστος.

CTS URN Retriever

The CTS URN retriever is a tool for retrieving and citing paragraphs, passages, and words in the text of the Deipnosophists by typing the corresponding CTS URN. The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
