πολλῶν δὲ ὄντων καὶ διαφόρων τῶν παρεσκευασμένων καὶ αἰεὶ παρασκευαζομένων ἰχθύων μεγέθει τε καὶ ποικιλίᾳ Μυρτίλος ἔφη· εἰκότως, ἄνδρες φίλοι, πάντων τῶν προσοψημάτων ὄψων καλουμένων ἐξενίκησεν ἰχθὺς διὰ τὴν ἐξαίρετον ἐδωδὴν μόνος οὕτως καλεῖσθαι διὰ τοὺς ἐπιμανῶς ἐσχηκότας πρὸς ταύτην τὴν ἐδωδήν. λέγομεν γοῦν ὀψοφάγους οὐ τοὺς βόεια ἐσθίοντας, οἷος ἦν Ἡρακλῆς, ὃς τοῖς βοείοις κρέασιν ἐπήσθιε σῦκα χλωρά, οὐδὲ τὸν φιλόσυκον, οἷος ἦν Πλάτων φιλόσοφος, ὡς ἱστορεῖ Φανόκριτος ἐν τῷ περὶ Εὐδόξου· ἱστορεῖ δʼ ὅτι καὶ Ἀρκεσίλας φιλόβοτρυς ἦν· ἀλλὰ τοὺς περὶ τὴν ἰχθυοπωλίαν ἀναστρεφομένους. φιλόμηλοι δʼ ἦσαν Φίλιππός τε Μακεδὼν καὶ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ Ἀλέξανδρος, ὡς Δωρόθεός φησιν ἐν τῇ ἕκτῃ τῶν περὶ Ἀλέξανδρον ἱστοριῶν· Χάρης δʼ Μυτιληναῖος ἱστορεῖ ὡς κάλλιστα μῆλα εὑρὼν Ἀλέξανδρος περὶ τὴν Βαβυλωνίαν χώραν τούτων τε πληρώσας τὰ σκάφη μηλομαχίαν ἀπὸ τῶν νεῶν ἐποιήσατο, ὡς τὴν θέαν ἡδίστην γενέσθαι. οὐκ ἀγνοῶ δὲ ὅτι ὄψον κυρίως καλεῖται πᾶν τὸ πυρὶ κατασκευαζόμενον εἰς ἐδωδήν· ἤτοι γὰρ ἕψον ἐστὶν παρὰ τὸ ὠπτῆσθαι ὠνόμασται.

The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.
