ΣΚΑΡΟΣ. τοῦτον Ἀριστοτέλης φησὶν καρχαρόδοντα εἶναι καὶ μονήρη καὶ σαρκοφάγον ἔχειν τε στόμα μικρὸν καὶ γλῶτταν οὐ λίαν προσπεφυκυῖαν, καρδίαν τρίγωνον, ἧπαρ λευκόν, τρίλοβον, ἔχειν τε χολὴν καὶ σπλῆνα μέλανα, τῶν δὲ βραγχίων τὸ μὲν διπλοῦν, τὸ δὲ ἁπλοῦν. μόνος δὲ καὶ τῶν ἄλλων ἰχθύων μηρυκάζει. χαίρει δὲ τῇ τῶν φυκίων τροφῇ· διὸ καὶ τούτοις θηρεύεται. ἀκμάζει δὲ θέρους. Ἐπίχαρμος δʼ ἐν Ἥβας γάμῳ φησίν· ἁλιεύομεν σπάρους καὶ σκάρους, τῶν οὐδὲ τὸ σκᾶρ θεμιτὸν ἐκβαλεῖν θεοῖς. Σέλευκος δʼ Ταρσεὺς ἐν τῷ Ἁλιευτικῷ μόνον φησὶ τῶν ἰχθύων τὸν σκάρον οὐ καθεύδειν· ὅθεν οὐδὲ νύκτωρ ποτὲ ἁλῶναι. τοῦτο δʼ ἴσως διὰ φόβον αὐτῷ συμβαίνει. Ἀρχέστρατος δʼ ἐν τῇ Γαστρονομία· σκάρον ἐξ Ἐφέσου ζήτει, χειμῶνι δὲ τρίγλαν ἔσθιʼ ἐνὶ ψαφαρῇ ληφθέντα Τειχιοέσσῃ Μιλήτου κώμῃ Καρῶν πέλας ἀγκυλοκώλων. κἀν ἄλλῳ δὲ μέρει φησίν· καὶ σκάρον ἐν παράλῳ Καλχηδόνι τὸν μέγαν ὄπτα, πλύνας εὖ· χρηστὸν δὲ καὶ ἐν Βυζαντίῳ ὄψει καὶ μέγεθος κυκλίᾳ ἴσον ἀσπίδι νῶτα φοροῦντα. τοῦτον ὅλον θεράπευε τρόπον τοιόνδε· λαβών νιν, ἡνίκʼ ἂν εὖ τυρῷ καὶ ἐλαίῳ πάντα πυκασθῇ, κρίβανον ἐς θερμὸν κρέμασον κἄπειτα κατόπτα. πάσσειν δʼ ἁλσὶ κυμινοτρίβοις καὶ γλαυκῷ ἐλαίῳ ἐκ χειρὸς κατακρουνίζων θεοδέγμονα πηγήν. Νίκανδρος δʼ Θυατειρηνὸς δύο γένη φησὶν εἶναι σκάρων καὶ καλεῖσθαι τὸν μὲν ὀνίαν, τὸν δὲ αἴολον.

The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.
