ὅτι δʼ ἦν ἔθος τοὺς γυναικονόμους ἐφορᾶν τὰ συμπόσια καὶ ἐξετάζειν τῶν κεκλημένων τὸν ἀριθμὸν εἰ κατὰ νόμον ἐστί, Τιμοκλῆς ἐν Φιλοδικαστῇ φησὶν οὕτως· ἀνοίγετʼ ἤδη τὰς θύρας, ἵνα πρὸς τὸ φῶς ὦμεν καταφανεῖς μᾶλλον, ἐφοδεύων ἐὰν βούληθʼ γυναικονόμος λαβεῖν ἀριθμόν, κατὰ τὸν νόμον τὸν καινὸν ὅπερ εἴωθε δρᾶν, τῶν ἑστιωμένων. ἔδει δὲ τοὔμπαλιν τὰς τῶν ἀδείπνων ἐξετάζειν οἰκίας. Μένανδρος δʼ ἐν Κεκρυφάλῳ· παρὰ τοῖς γυναικονόμοις δὲ τοὺς ἐν τοῖς γάμοις διακονοῦντας ἀπογεγράφθαι πυθόμενος πάντας μαγείρους κατὰ νόμον καινόν τινα, ἵνα πυνθάνωνται τοὺς κεκλημένους ἐὰν πλείους τις ὧν ἔξεστιν ἑστιῶν τύχῃ, ἐλθών ... καὶ Φιλόχορος δʼ ἐν ἑβδόμῃ Ἀτθίδος οἱ γυναικονόμοι, φησί, μετὰ τῶν Ἀρεοπαγιτῶν ἐσκόπουν τὰς ἐν ταῖς οἰκίαις συνόδους ἔν τε τοῖς γάμοις καὶ ταῖς ἄλλαις θυσίαις.

CTS URN Retriever

The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
