εἰκότως οὖν καὶ οἱ ἁλιεῖς ἐπὶ τῇ τέχνῃ μέγα φρονοῦσι μᾶλλον οἱ ἄριστοι τῶν στρατηγῶν· παράγει γοῦν τινα τούτων Ἀναξανδρίδης ἐν Ὀδυσσεῖ περὶ τῆς ἁλιευτικῆς τέχνης τάδε λέγοντα· τῶν ζωγράφων μὲν καλὴ χειρουργία ἐν τοῖς πίναξιν κρεμαμένη θαυμάζεται· αὕτη δὲ σεμνῶς ἐκ λοπάδος ἁρπάζεται ἀπὸ τοῦ ταγήνου τʼ εὐθέως ἀφανίζεται. ἐπὶ τίνα δʼ ἄλλην τέχνην, χρηστὲ σύ, τὰ στόματα τῶν νεωτέρων κατακάετʼ ὠθισμός ἐστι δακτύλων τοιουτοσὶ πνιγμός, ἂν μὴ ταχὺ δύνηται καταπιεῖν, ἀλλʼ οὐ μόνη γὰρ τὰς συνουσίας ποιεῖ εὔοψος ἀγορά; τίς δὲ συνδειπνεῖ βροτῶν φρυκτοὺς καταλαβὼν κορακίνους ὠνίους μαινίδʼ; ὡραῖον δὲ μειρακύλλιον ποίαις ἐπῳδαῖς λόγοις ἁλίσκεται τίσιν, φράσον γάρ, ἄν τις ἀφέλῃ τὴν τέχνην τὴν τῶν ἀλιέων; ἥδε γὰρ δαμάζεται ἑφθοῖς προσώποις ἰχθύων χειρουμένη, ἄγουσʼ ὑπʼ αὐτὰ σώματʼ ἀρίστου πύλας, ἀσύμβολον κλίνειν τʼ ἀναγκάζει φύσιν.

CTS URN Retriever

The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
