Νίκανδρος δʼ Κολοφώνιος ἐν Γεωργικοῖς τάδε τῶν ὀστρέων καταλέγει· ἠὲ καὶ ὄστρεα τόσσα βυθοὺς ἅτε βόσκεται ἅλμης, νηρῖται στρόμβοι τε πελωριάδες τε μύες τε, γλίσχραι τʼ ἀλλὰ σύνες τε καὶ αὐτῆς φωλεὰ πίνης. καὶ Ἀρχέστρατος δʼ ἐν Γαστρονομίᾳ φησί· τοὺς μῦς Αἶνος ἔχει μεγάλους, ὄστρεια δʼ Ἄβυδος, τὰς ἄρκτους Πάριον, τοὺς δὲ κτένας Μιτυλήνη· πλείστους δʼ Ἀμβρακία παρέχει καὶ ἄπλατα μετʼ αὐτῶν .... Μεσσήνῃ δὲ πελωριάδας στενοπορθμίδι κόγχας κἀν Ἐφέσῳ λήψει τὰς λείας οὔ τι πονηράς. τήθεα Καλχηδών, τοὺς κήρυκας δʼ ἐπιτρίψαι Ζεύς, τούς τε θαλασσογενεῖς καὶ τοὺς ἀγοραίους, πλὴν ἑνὸς ἀνθρώπου· κεῖνος δέ μοί ἐστιν ἑταῖρος Λέσβον ἐριστάφυλον ναίων, Ἀγάθων δὲ καλεῖται. καὶ Φιλύλλιος δὲ ὅστις ἐστὶν ποιήσας τὰς Πόλεις φησί· χήμας, λεπάδας, σωλῆνας, μῦς, πίννας, κτένας ἐκ Μηθύμνης. ὄστρεια δὲ μόνως οὕτως ἔλεγον οἱ ἀρχαῖοι. Κρατῖνος Ἀρχιλόχοις· πίννῃσι καὶ ὀστρείοισιν ὁμοίη. καὶ Ἐπίχαρμος ἐν Ἥβας γάμῳ· ὄστρεια συμπεφυκότα. ὄστρεον δὲ ὡς ὄρνεον Πλάτων ἐν Φαίδρῳ· ὀστρέου τρόπον, φησί, δεδεσμευμένοι, καὶ ἐν Τιμαίῳ· τὸ τῶν ὀστρέων γένος συμπάντων, ἐν δὲ τῷ τῆς Πολιτείας δεκάτῳ ὄστρεια εἶπε· προσπεφυκέναι ὄστρειά τε καὶ φυκία. αἱ δὲ πελωρίδες ὠνομάσθησαν παρὰ τὸ πελώριον. μεῖζον γάρ ἐστι χήμης καὶ παρηλλαγμένον. Ἀριστοτέλης δέ φησι καὶ ἐν ἄμμῳ αὐτὰς γίνεσθαι. τῶν δὲ χημῶν μνημονεύει Ἴων Χῖος ἐν Ἐπιδημίαις καὶ ἴσως οὕτως ὠνόμασται τὰ κογχύλια παρὰ τὸ κεχηνέναι.

The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.
