ἕτερον δʼ ἐστὶν εἶδος παιδιᾶς τῆς ἐν λεκάνῃ. αὕτη δʼ ὕδατος πληροῦται ἐπινεῖ τε ἐπʼ αὐτῆς ὀξύβαφα κενά, ἐφʼ βάλλοντες τὰς λατάγας ἐκ καρχησίων ἐπειρῶντο καταδύειν· ἀνῃρεῖτο δὲ τὰ κοττάβια πλείω καταδύσας. Ἀμειψίας Ἀκοκοτταβίζουσιν· Μανία, φέρʼ ὀξύβαφα καὶ κανθάρους καὶ τὸν ποδανιπτῆρʼ, ἐγχέασα θὔδατος. Κρατῖνος ἐν Νεμέσει· τὸ δὲ κοττάβῳ προθέντας ἐν πατρικοῖσι νόμοις τὸ κεινεου ὀξυβάφοις βάλλειν μὲν τῶ πόντω δὲ βάλλοντι νέμω πλεῖστα τύχης τὸ δʼ ἆθλον. Ἀριστοφάνης Δαιταλεῦσιν ἔγνωκʼ, ἐγὼ δὲ χαλκίον (τοῦτʼ ἐστὶν κοττάβειον) ἱστάναι καὶ μυρρίνας. Ἕρμιππος Μοίραις· χλανίδες δʼ οὖλαι καταβέβληνται, θώρακα δʼ ἅπας ἐμπερονᾶται, κνημὶς δὲ περὶ σφυρὸν ἀρθροῦται, βλαύτης δʼ οὐδεὶς ἔτʼ ἔρως λευκῆς, ῥάβδον δʼ ὄψει τὴν κοτταβικὴν ἐν τοῖς ἀχύροισι κυλινδομένην, μάνης δʼ οὐδὲν λατάγων ἀίει· τὴν δὲ τάλαιναν πλάστιγγʼ ἂν ἴδοις παρὰ τὸν στροφέα τῆς κηπαίας ἐν τοῖσι κορήμασιν οὖσαν. Ἀχαιὸς δʼ ἐν Λίνῳ περὶ τῶν Σατύρων λέγων φησίν· ῥιπτοῦντες, ἐκβάλλοντες, ἀγνύντες, τί μου λέγοντες· κάλλιστον Ἡρακλεῖ λάταξ τοῦτο δὲ λέγοντες παρʼ ὅσον τῶν ἐρωμένων ἐμέμνηντο, ἀφιέντες ἐπʼ αὐτοῖς τοὺς λεγομένους κοσσάβους. διὸ καὶ Σοφοκλῆς ἐν Ἰνάχῳ Ἀφροδισίαν εἴρηκε τὴν λάταγα· ξανθὴ δʼ Ἀφροδισία λάταξ πᾶσιν ἐπεκτύπει δόμοις. καὶ Εὐριπίδης ἐν Πλεισθένει· πολὺς δὲ κοσσάβων ἀραγμὸς Κύπριδος προσῳδὸν ἀχεῖ μέλος ἐν δόμοισιν. καὶ Καλλίμαχος δέ φησι· πολλοὶ καὶ φιλέοντες Ἀκόντιον ἧκαν ἔραζε οἰνοπόται Σικελὰς ἐκ κυλίκων λάταγας.

CTS URN Retriever

The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
