πολλῶν οὖν ἑκάστοτε τοιούτων λεγομένων, ἐπεί ποτε ἑσπέρα κατελάμβανεν ἡμᾶς, μέν τις ἔλεγεν παῖ, λυχνίονʼ, δὲ λυχνέα, δὲ λοφνίδα, οὕτω καλεῖσθαι φάσκων τὴν ἐκ τοῦ φλοιοῦ λαμπάδα, δὲ πανόν, ἄλλος δὲ φανόν, δὲ λυχνοῦχον, δὲ λύχνον, καὶ δίμυξον δὲ λύχνον ἕτερος, ἄλλος δὲ ἑλάνην, δέ τις ἑλάνας, τὰς λαμπάδας οὕτω φάσκων καλεῖσθαι παρὰ τὴν ἕλην· οὕτω δʼ εἰπεῖν Νεάνθην ἐν αʹ τῶν περὶ Ἄτταλον Ἱστοριῶν· καὶ ἄλλος τι δή ποτε, ὡς τάραχον γίνεσθαι οὐ τὸν τυχόντα τῶν ἐπὶ τούτοις πίστεων παρὰ πάντων λεγομένων. Σιληνὸν μὲν γάρ τις τὸν γλωσσογράφον ἔφασκεν Ἀθηναίους λέγειν τὰς λαμπάδας φανούς. Τιμαχίδας δὲ Ῥόδιος δέλετρον τὸν φανὸν καλεῖσθαι, οἷον, φησίν, οἱ νυκτερευόμενοι τῶν νέων ἔχουσιν ... οὓς οὗτοι ἑλάνας καλοῦσιν. Ἀμερίας δὲ γράβιον τὸν φανόν. Σέλευκος δὲ οὕτως ἐξηγεῖται ταύτην τὴν λέξιν· γράβιόν ἐστιν τὸ πρίνινον δρύινον ξύλον, περιεθλασμένον καὶ κατεσχισμένον ἐξάπτεσθαι καὶ φαίνειν τοῖς ὁδοιποροῦσιν. Θεοδωρίδας γοῦν Συρακόσιος ἐν Κενταύροις διθυράμβῳ φησίν· πίσσα δʼ ἀπὸ γραβίων ἔσταζεν, οἷον ἀπὸ .... λαμπάδων. μνημονεύει δὲ γραβίων καὶ Στράττις ἐν Φοινίσσαις

CTS URN Retriever

The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.
