ὅτι δὲ διὰ σπουδῆς ἦν τοῖς παλαιοτέροις τῶν μύρων χρῆσις δῆλον ἐκ τοῦ καὶ ἐπίστασθαι ποῖόν τι ἑκάστῳ τῶν μελῶν ἡμῶν ἐστιν ἐπιτήδειον. Ἀντιφάνης γοῦν ἐν Θορικίοις Διορύττοντί φησιν· λοῦται δʼ ἀληθῶς· ἀλλὰ τί; Β. ἐκ χρυσοκολλήτου δὲ κάλπιδος μύρῳ Αἰγυπτίῳ μὲν τοὺς πόδας καὶ τὰ σκέλη, φοινικίνῳ δὲ τὰς γνάθους καὶ τιτθία, σισυμβρίνῳ δὲ τὸν ἕτερον βραχίονα, ἀμαρακίνῳ δὲ τὰς ὀφρῦς καὶ τὴν κόμην, ἑρπυλλίνῳ δὲ τὸ γόνυ καὶ τὸν αὐχένα ... καὶ Κηφισόδωρος ἐν Τροφωνίῳ· ἔπειτʼ ἀλείφεσθαι πρίω τὸ σῶμά μοι μύρον ἴρινον καὶ ῥόδινον, ἄγαμαι, Ξανθία· καὶ τοῖς ποσὶν χωρὶς πρίω μοι βάκχαριν. Β. λακκόπρωκτε, βάκχαριν τοῖς σοῖς ποσὶν ἐγὼ πρίωμαι; λαικάσομἄρα βάκχαριν; Ἀναξανδρίδης Πρωτεσιλάῳ· μύρον τε παρὰ Πέρωνος, οὗπερ ἀπέδοτο ἐχθὲς Μελανώπῳ, πολυτελοῦς Αἰγυπτίου, νῦν ἀλείφει τοὺς πόδας Καλλιστράτου. μνημονεύει τοῦ μυροπώλου τούτου τοῦ Πέρωνος καὶ Θεόπομπος ἐν Ἀδμήτῳ καὶ Ἡδυχάρει Ἀντιφάνης δʼ ἐν Ἀντείᾳ· πρὸς τῷ μυροπώλῃ γευόμενον κατελίμπανον αὐτὸν περὶ μύρον ..... μέλλει τε συνθείς σοι φέρειν τὰ κινναμώμινα ταῦτα καὶ τὰ νάρδινα.

The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
