ἐν τούτοις Ἑρμησιάναξ σφάλλεται συγχρονεῖν οἰόμενος Σαπφὼ καὶ Ἀνακρέοντα, τὸν μὲν κατὰ Κῦρον καὶ Πολυκράτην γενόμενον, τὴν δὲ κατʼ Ἀλυάττην τὸν Κροίσου πατέρα. Χαμαιλέων δʼ ἐν τῷ περὶ Σαπφοῦς καὶ λέγειν τινάς φησιν εἰς αὐτὴν πεποιῆσθαι ὑπὸ Ἀνακρέοντος τάδε· σφαίρῃ δεῦτέ με πορφυρέῃ βάλλων χρυσοκόμης Ἔρως νήνι ποικιλοσαμβάλῳ συμπαίζειν προκαλεῖται. δʼ (ἐστὶν γὰρ ἀπʼ εὐκτίτου Λέσβου) τὴν μὲν ἐμὴν κόμην (λευκὴ γάρ) καταμέμφεται, πρὸς δʼ ἄλλην τινὰ χάσκει. καὶ τὴν Σαπφὼ δὲ πρὸς αὐτὸν ταῦτά φησιν εἰπεῖν· κεῖνον, χρυσόθρονε Μοῦσʼ, ἔνισπες ὕμνον, ἐκ τᾶς καλλιγύναικος ἐσθλᾶς Τήιος χώρας ὃν ἄειδε τερπνῶς πρέσβυς ἀγαυός. ὅτι δὲ οὔκ ἐστι Σαπφοῦς τοῦτο τὸ ᾆσμα παντί που δῆλον. ἐγὼ δὲ ἡγοῦμαι παίζειν τὸν Ἑρμησιάνακτα περὶ τούτου τοῦ ἔρωτος. καὶ γὰρ Δίφιλος κωμῳδιοποιὸς πεποίηκεν ἐν Σαπφοῖ δράματι Σαπφοῦς ἐραστὰς Ἀρχίλοχον καὶ Ἱππώνακτα. ταῦθʼ ὑμῖν, ἑταῖροι, οὐκ ἀμερίμνως δοκῶ τὸν ἐρωτικὸν τοῦτον πεποιῆσθαι κατάλογον, οὐκ ὢν οὕτως ἐρωτομανὴς ὡς διαβάλλων μʼ εἴρηκεν Κύνουλκος, ἀλλʼ ἐρωτικὸς μὲν εἶναι ὁμολογῶ, ἐρωτομανὴς δὲ οὔ. τίς δʼ ἔστʼ ἀνάγκη δυστυχεῖν ἐν πλείοσιν, ἐξὸν σιωπᾶν κἀν σκότῳ κρύπτειν τάδε; Αἰσχύλος ἔφη Ἀλεξανδρεὺς ἐν Ἀμφιτρύωνι. οὗτος δέ ἐστιν Αἰσχύλος καὶ τὰ Μεσσηνιακὰ ἔπη συνθείς, ἀνὴρ εὐπαίδευτος.

The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.
