Λαίδος τε τῆς ἐξ Ὑκκάρων (πόλις δʼ αὕτη Σικελική, ἀφʼ ἧς αἰχμάλωτος γενομένη ἧκεν εἰς Κόρινθον, ὡς ἱστορεῖ Πολέμων ἐν τῷ ἕκτῳ τῶν πρὸς Τίμαιον· ἧς καὶ Ἀρίστιππος ἤρα καὶ Δημοσθένης ῥήτωρ Διογένης τε κύων· καὶ Ἀφροδίτη ἐν Κορίνθῳ Μελαινὶς καλουμένη νυκτὸς ἐπιφαινομένη ἐμήνυεν ἐραστῶν ἔφοδον πολυταλάντων) οὐχ Ὑπερείδης μνημονεύει ἐν τῷ κατὰ Ἀρισταγόρας δευτέρῳ ; Ἀπελλῆς δὲ ζωγράφος ἔτι παρθένον οὖσαν τὴν Λαίδα θεασάμενος ἀπὸ τῆς Πειρήνης ὑδροφοροῦσαν καὶ θαυμάσας τὸ κάλλος ἤγαγέν ποτε αὐτὴν εἰς φίλων συμπόσιον. χλευασάντων δʼ αὐτὸν τῶν ἑταίρων ὅτι ἀνθʼ ἑταίρας παρθένον εἰς τὸ συμπόσιον ἀγάγοι, μὴ θαυμάσητε, εἶπεν· ἐγὼ γὰρ αὐτὴν εἰς μέλλουσαν ἀπόλαυσιν μετʼ οὐδʼ ὅλην τριετίαν καλὴν δείξω. τὸ δʼ αὐτὸ καὶ Σωκράτης ἐμαντεύσατο περὶ Θεοδότης τῆς Ἀθηναίας, ὥς φησι Ξενοφῶν ἐν Ἀπομνημονεύμασιν· ὅτι δὲ καλλίστη εἴη καὶ στέρνα κρείττω λόγου παντὸς ἔχοι λέγοντός τινος, ἰτέον ἡμῖν, ἔφη, θεασομένοις τὴν γυναῖκα· οὐ γὰρ δὴ ἀκούουσιν ἔστιν κρῖναι τὸ κάλλος. οὕτω δʼ ἦν Λαὶς καλὴ ὡς καὶ τοὺς ζωγράφους ἐρχομένους πρὸς αὐτὴν ἀπομιμεῖσθαι τῆς γυναικὸς τοὺς μαστοὺς καὶ τὰ στέρνα. διαζηλοτυπουμένη δέ ποτε Λαὶς Φρύνῃ πολὺν ἐραστῶν ἔσχηκεν ὅμιλον, οὐ διακρίνουσα πλούσιον πένητα οὐδʼ ὑβριστικῶς αὐτοῖς χρωμένη.

CTS URN Retriever

The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.
