περὶ δὲ τοῦ εἰρημένου τῆς Μανίας ὀνόματος Μάχων τάδε φησίν· ἴσως δʼ ἂν ἀπορήσαι τις εὐλόγως θʼ ἅμα τῶν νῦν ἀκροατῶν, εἴ τις Ἀττικὴ γυνὴ προσηγορεύετʼ ἐνομίσθη Μανία. αἰσχρὸν γὰρ ὄνομα Φρυγιακὸν γυναῖκʼ ἔχειν, καὶ ταῦθʼ ἑταίραν ἐκ μέσης τῆς Ἑλλάδος, μὴ τὴν Ἀθηναίων τι κωλῦσαι πόλιν, ὑφʼ ἧς ἅπαντές εἰσʼ ἐπηνορθωμένοι. τὸ μὲν οὖν ὑπάρχον εὐθέως ἐκ παιδίου αὐτῇ Μέλιττʼ ἦν ὄνομα. τῷ μεγέθει μὲν ἦν τῶν τότε γυναικῶν βραχύ τι καταδεεστέρα· φωνῇ δʼ ὁμιλίᾳ τε κεχορηγημένη πάνυ τʼ εὐπρόσωπος οὖσα καὶ καταπληκτικὴ πολλοὺς ἐραστὰς καὶ πολίτας καὶ ξένους ἔχουσʼ ὅπου περὶ τῆς γυναικός τις λόγος γένοιτο, μανίαν τὴν Μέλιτταν ὡς καλὴν ἔφασκον εἶναι, καὶ προσεξειργάζετο αὐτὴ τὸ πλεῖον. ἡνίκα σκώψειε γάρ, ῥημάτιον εὐθὺ τοῦτο μανίαν ἀνεβόα, αὐτή θʼ ὅτʼ ἐπαινοίη τινʼ ψέγοι πάλιν, ἐπʼ ἀμφοτέρων προσέκειτο μανία τῶν λόγων. διὸ τῆς μανίας τὸ ῥῆμʼ ἐπεκτείνας δοκεῖ καλέσαι τις αὐτὴν τῶν ἐραστῶν Μανίαν· μᾶλλον τὸ πάρεργον ἐπεκράτησʼ τοὔνομα. ἐδόκει δὲ λιθιᾶν, ὡς ἔοιχʼ, Μανία· Γνάθαινα δʼ εἰς τὰ στρώμαθʼ ὅτι προίετο, ἐνουθετήθη τοῦτό πως ὑπὸ Διφίλου. μετὰ ταῦτα δʼ Γνάθαινα πρὸς τὴν Μανίαν ἐλοιδορεῖτο καὶ λέγει τί τοῦτο, παῖ, εἰ καὶ λίθον εἶχες; ὑπολαβοῦσʼ Μανία ἔδωκʼ ἄν, ἵνʼ εἶχες, φήσʼ, ἀποψᾶσθαι, τάλαν.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.
