δὲ σοφὸς ἐκεῖνος Ζήνων, ὥς φησιν Ἀντίγονος Καρύστιος, προμαντευόμενος ὑμῶν, ὡς τὸ εἰκός, περὶ τοῦ βίου καὶ τῆς προσποιητοῦ ἐπιτηδεύσεως ἔφη ὡς οἱ παρακούσαντες αὐτοῦ τῶν λόγων καὶ μὴ συνέντες ἔσονται ῥυπαροὶ καὶ ἀνελεύθεροι, καθάπερ οἱ τῆς Ἀριστίππου παρενεχθέντες αἱρέσεως ἄσωτοι καὶ θρασεῖς. καὶ δὴ τοιοῦτοι ὑμῶν εἰσιν οἱ πλεῖστοι, συνεσπασμένοι καὶ κακοπινεῖς οὐ μόνον τοῖς ἤθεσιν ἀλλὰ καὶ ἕξει. βουλόμενοι γὰρ ἐνδύεσθαι τὴν αὐτάρκειαν καὶ τὴν εὐτέλειαν εὑρίσκεσθε ἐπὶ ταῖς τῆς φιλαργυρίας θύραις ῥυπαρῶς ζῶντες καὶ τριβωνάρια περιβαλλόμενοι μικρὰ καὶ τῶν ἥλων ἐμπιπλάντες τὰ καττύματα καὶ κιναίδους καλοῦντες τοὺς μύρου προσβάλλοντας μικρῷ μαλακωτέραν ἠμφιεσμένους ἐσθῆτα. οὐ δεῖ οὖν οὕτως ἐσταλμένους περὶ ἀργύριον ἐπτοῆσθαι καὶ ἐρωμένους περιάγεσθαι ξυρουμένους τὴν ὑπήνην καὶ τὸν ὄρρον τοὺς ἀκολουθοῦντας ἐν τῷ Λυκείῳ μετὰ σοφιστῶν, νὴ Δία, λεπτῶν, ἀσίτων, σκυτίνων, κατὰ τὸν Ἀντιφάνην

CTS URN Retriever

The CTS URN retriever is a tool for retrieving and citing paragraphs, passages, and words in the text of the Deipnosophists by typing the corresponding CTS URN. The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
