Λικύμνιος δʼ Χῖος τὸν Ὕπνον φήσας ἐρᾶν τοῦ Ἐνδυμίωνος οὐδὲ καθεύδοντος αὐτοῦ κατακαλύπτει τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς, ἀλλὰ ἀναπεπταμένων τῶν βλεφάρων κοιμίζει τὸν ἐρώμενον, ὅπως διὰ παντὸς ἀπολαύῃ τῆς τοῦ θεωρεῖν ἡδονῆς. λέγει δʼ οὕτως· Ὕπνος δὲ χαίρων ὀμμάτων αὐγαῖς ἀναπεπταμένοις ὄσσοις ἐκοίμιζεν κοῦρον. καὶ Σαπφὼ δὲ πρὸς τὸν ὑπερβαλλόντως θαυμαζόμενον τὴν μορφὴν καὶ καλὸν εἶναι νομιζόμενόν φησιν· στᾶθι κἄντα, φίλος, καὶ τὰν ἐπʼ ὄσσοις ἀμπέτασον χάριν. δʼ Ἀνακρέων τί φησίν ; παῖ παρθένιον βλέπων, δίζημαί σε, σὺ δʼ οὐ κλύεις, οὐκ εἰδὼς ὅτι τῆς ἐμῆς ψυχῆς ἡνιοχεύεις. δὲ μεγαλοφωνότατος Πίνδαρος· τὰς δὲ Θεοξένου, φησίν, ἀκτῖνας πρὸς ὄσσων μαρμαριζοίσας δρακεὶς ὃς μὴ πόθῳ κυμαίνεται, ἐξ ἀδάμαντος σιδάρου κεχάλκευται μέλαιναν καρδίαν ψυχρᾷ φλογί. δὲ τοῦ Κυθηρίου Φιλοξένου Κύκλωψ ἐρῶν τῆς Γαλατείας καὶ ἐπαινῶν αὐτῆς τὸ κάλλος, προμαντευόμενος τὴν τύφλωσιν πάντα μᾶλλον αὐτῆς ἐπαινεῖ τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν μνημονεύει, λέγων ὧδε· καλλιπρόσωπε, χρυσεοβόστρυχε Γαλάτεια, χαριτόφωνε, θάλος Ἐρώτων. τυφλὸς ἔπαινος καὶ κατʼ οὐδὲν ὅμοιος τῷ Ἰβυκείῳ ἐκείνῳ· Εὐρύαλε, γλυκέων Χαρίτων θάλος, ... καλλικόμων μελέδημα, σὲ μὲν Κύπρις τʼ ἀγανοβλέφαρος Πειθὼ ῥοδέοισιν ἐν ἄνθεσι θρέψαν. Φρύνιχός τε ἐπὶ τοῦ Τρωίλου ἔφη λάμπειν ἐπὶ πορφυραῖς παρῇσι φῶς ἔρωτος.

CTS URN Retriever

The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
