ΑΛΕΙΣΟΝ καὶ ΔΕΠΑΣ τὸ αὐτό. Ὅμηρος ἐν Ὀδυσσείᾳ περὶ Πεισιστράτου· ἐν δʼ οἶνον ἔχευε χρυσείῳ δέπαι. εἶτα παρακατιὼν τὸ αὐτό· τούνεκα σοὶ δώσω χρύσειον ἄλεισον. καὶ ἑξῆς τὸ αὐτὸ πάλιν· δῶκε δὲ Τηλεμάχῳ καλὸν δέπας. φησὶν οὖν Ἀσκληπιάδης Μυρλεανός· δοκεῖ μοι φιαλῶδες εἶναι τὸ δέπας· σπένδουσι γὰρ ἐν αὐτῷ. λέγει γοῦν Ὅμηρος δέπας, διʼ οὗ Διὶ μόνῳ σπένδεσκεν Ἀχιλλεύς. καλεῖται δὲ δέπας ἤτοι ὅτι δίδοται πᾶσι τοῖς σπένδειν βουλομένοις εἴτε καὶ τοῖς πίνειν, ὅτι δύο ὦπας εἶχε· ταῦτα δὲ ἂν εἴη τὰ ὦτα. τὸ δὲ ἄλεισον ἤτοι ἀπὸ τοῦ ἄγαν λεῖον εἶναι ὅτι ἁλίζεται ἐν αὐτῷ τὸ ὑγρόν. ὅτι δὲ δύο ὦτα εἶχε δῆλον· ἦτοι καλὸν ἄλεισον ἀναιρήσεσθαι ἔμελλε χρύσεον ἄμφωτον. ἀμφικύπελλον δὲ λέγων αὐτὸ οὐδὲν ἄλλο σημαίνει ὅτι ἦν ἀμφίκυρτον. Σιληνὸς δὲ ἀμφικύπελλόν φησι τὸ μὴ ἔχον ὦτα. ἄλλοι δὲ τὴν ἀμφὶ ἀντὶ τῆς περὶ εἶναι, ἵνʼ περίποτον, τὸ πανταχόθεν πίνειν ἐπιτήδειον. Παρθένιος δὲ διὰ τὸ περικεκυρτῶσθαι τὰ ὠτάρια· κυφὸν γὰρ εἶναι τὸ κυρτόν. Ἀνίκητος δὲ τὸ μὲν κύπελλόν φησι φιάλην εἶναι, τὸ δʼ ἀμφικύπελλον ὑπερφίαλον, τὸ ὑπερήφανον καὶ καλόν. εἰ μὴ ἄρα τὸ ποικίλον τῇ κατασκευῇ ἄλεισον θέλει τις ἀκούειν, ἔξω λειότητος ὄν. Πείσανδρος δέ φησιν Ἡρακλέα Τελαμῶνι τῆς ἐπὶ Ἴλιον στρατείας ἀριστεῖον ἄλεισον δοῦναι.

The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
