Ἄγε δή, τίς ἀρχὴ τῶν λόγων γενήσεται; κατὰ τὸν κωμῳδιοποιὸν Κηφισόδωρον, ἑταῖρε Τιμόκρατες. συναχθέντων γὰρ ἡμῶν καθʼ ὥραν μετὰ σπουδῆς διὰ τὰ ἐκπώματα ὁ Οὐλπιανός, ἔτι καθημένων ἁπάντων, πρὶν καί τι διαλεχθῆναι ἔφη· παρὰ μὲν τῷ Ἀδράστῳ, ἄνδρες φίλοι, καθίσαντες οἱ ἀριστεῖς δειπνοῦσιν, ὁ δὲ Πολύιδος ἱερὰ θύων ἐν ὁδῷ παραπορευόμενον τὸν Πετεὼ κατέσχεν καὶ κατακλίνας ἐν τῇ πόᾳ θαλλίαν τε κατακλάσας ἀντὶ τραπέζης παρέθηκε τῶν τυθέντων. καὶ τῷ Αὐτολύκῳ ἐλθόντι Ἰθάκης ἐς πίονα δῆμον ἡ τροφὸς καθημένῳ δηλονότι — οὕτως γὰρ ἐδείπνουν οἱ τότε — τὸν Ὀδυσσέα, φησὶν ὁ ποιητής, παῖδα νέον γεγαῶτα κιχήσατο θυγατέρος ἧς, τόν ῥά οἱ Εὐρύκλεια φίλοις ἐπὶ γούνασι θῆκε παυομένῳ δόρποιο ἐκάθισεν ἐπὶ τῶν γονάτων καὶ οὐχὶ παρὰ τοῖς γόνασιν ἔστησεν. ἡμεῖς οὖν μὴ διατρίβωμεν, ἀλλʼ ἤδη κατακλινώμεθα, ἵνʼ ἡμῖν ὁ Πλούταρχος περὶ ὧν ἐπαγγέλλεται ποτηρίων ἀποδοὺς τὸν λόγον καὶ τὰς κύλικας πλήρεις ἅπασι προπίῃ.

CTS URN Retriever
The CTS URN retriever is a tool for retrieving and citing paragraphs, passages, and words in the text of the Deipnosophists by typing the corresponding CTS URN. The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.
The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

The icons on the left of each paragraph are links to external resources:
- list icon : automatic alignment of index entries with the Greek text of the Deipnosophists (indices by August Meineke, Georg Kaibel, and S. Douglas Olson);
- tag icon : POS tagging of the text through the OpenNLP POSTagger for Ancient Greek.
Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
